About

Join Margot Dixon in the gallery as she shares details of her research into Captain Samuel F. Scott's scrapbook, which is entering the Maritime Museum of BC Collection. You will have the opportunity to view the scrapbook with her.

Margot Dixon discovered Captain Samuel F. Scott's scrapbook among her mother's family albums. This unique collection of documents revealed a captivating story of a life at sea in the late nineteenth century, filled with voyages across dangerous waters, storms, shipwrecks, illness, war, mutiny, and tragedy.

Captain Scott, born in New Brunswick, sailed globally with his family for various shipping companies. After personal tragedies at sea, he pursued gold mining in British Columbia and explored business ventures along the Canadian and US west coasts. The scrapbook, collected between 1847 and 1905 and transcribed by Margot, offers an intimate look into the life of a remarkable Canadian shipmaster.
